धूमपान - Fumes Inhalation therapy

धूमपान- Fumes inhalation therapy is advised in दिनचर्या daily regime. It is a very effective treatment for जत्रूर्ध्व रोग (upper clavicular diseases). it has preventive and curative action both.



` धूमपान should not be confused with smoking. It is an ancient Ayurvedic technique to balance वात and कफदोष. धूम्रवर्ती, a stick made from medicinal herbs is placed on a specially designed instrument called as धूमनेत्र which is prepared with metal. Herbs like अगरु, गुग्गुल, नागरमोथा, जटामांसी, वाळा, जेष्ठीमध, लाक्षा, हल्दी, त्रिफला and विडंग are used in धूम्रवर्ती imparting various benefits like-

  • All sensory oragans are situated in the head. These senses connect the person to the exterior environment. Thus its very important to keep these sense organs disease free and maintain their functioning. शिर; the head is prime site of कफदोष. Daily practice of धूमपान balances कफदोष and thereby maintains smooth functioning of senses.

  • Strengthens scalp hair, teeth and mouth organs.

  • Prevents bad taste in mouth

  • Removes bad smell

However there are certain contraindications for धूमपान as-

  • Head injuries

  • Diabetes patient

  • Person having night shifts or sleeps late in night

  • Hot seasons like summer and October

In above conditions, धूमपान leads to fever, giddiness or headache in few cases. Hence it should be better avoided.

धूमपान can be taken 2 times in a day either through nose or mouth. But exhalation should be done through mouth only; else it will increase risk of vision disorders. Nowadays ready to use ‘Nirdosh Dhoompan sticks’ are available in market. Along with above mentioned benefits, it can be used to give up the habit of tobacco and marijuana smoking.

धूमपान clears impurities from throat, head and sensory organs and produces lightness in the head and balances all the दोष in head. Always seek an Authentic Ayurvedic experts’ advise before following it.
