ताम्बूलसेवन

ताम्बूलसेवन or betel chewing is mentioned in दिनचर्या (Daily Regime). Ayurvedic method of ताम्बूलसेवन, preparation and chewing of betel leaves is very much safe and beneficial for health.

Unlike modernization of ताम्बूलसेवन where पान मसाला, सुगन्धि सुपारी (sweetened betel nut) and तम्बाखू (Nicotine) are used; Ayurvedic ताम्बूलसेवन is scientifically designed to maintain perfect oral health. It consists of ताम्बूल Fresh Betel leaves, जायफल (Nutmeg), कंकोल (Piper cubeba), कापूर, पूग or सुपारी (Areca catechu), एला or वेलची and लवंग.

Mouth is the site for बोधककफ which helps to derive the taste of any substance consumed. कफ is prominent in morning time and after food consumption. This कफ if in excess or vitiated can lead to अरुचि (loss of taste), मंदाग्नि (low appetite), प्रसेक (altered salivation).

ताम्बूलसेवन regulates कफ and maintains quality of बोधककफ; thus oral cavity becomes विशद (clear) and devoid of foul smell. Coating on tongue is cleared; thus ensuring better functioning of taste buds which in turn facilitates better taste grasping.

ताम्बूलसेवन also has excellent property of giving pleasant voice, hence many classical singers practices it. If taken after meal, it acts as a good digestive and improves functions of इन्द्रिय (senses) along with it cleansing action and good smell.

Scientifically it has been proved that extracts of betel leaves inhibits antibacterial activity against food borne pathogens. In many traditions, any auspicious function starts with ताम्बूलपत्र (betel leaves) and पूग or सुपारी (Areca catechu).

Traditionally prepared ताम्बूलसेवन has all these excellent properties which makes it ideal in दिनचर्या. However, current मसालापान contains all artificial flavors and sweetened products like cherries, gulkand that are heavy to digest. So do follow traditional Ayurvedic ताम्बूलसेवन to avail maximum health benefits in your daily regime.
