Dantadhavan (दन्तधावन)

Dental hygiene is a very important step to maintain our health. Many people suffer from dental and oral health problems due to lack of knowledge about दन्तस्वास्थ्य ( Dental and oral health). Ayurved has thus mentioned Dantadhavan (दन्तधावन) in दिनचर्या aka daily regime.

Dantadhavan (दन्तधावन) not only cleans teeth and gum but also aids in digestion.

As per Ayurved, teeth are known as रुचिकास्थि  as they helps to feel the taste of food. A person without teeth is unable to taste food and eat solid food suffering from many digestion issues. This signifies importance of दन्तस्वास्थ्य ( Dental and oral health).

बोधक कफ in our mouth is full of salivary secretions and works on early taste detection and digestion. With food intake, naturally these secretions increase. Vitiated बोधक कफ due to faulty diet habits or addictions like Tobacco or Smoking lead to bad breath (मुखदुर्गंध), आस्यवैरस्य dental plaques (दन्तमल). Dantadhavan (दन्तधावन) maintains quality of बोधक कफ.

Ayurved recommends bark of medicinal plants having astringent, bitter taste like Neem, Karanj, Meeswak, Khadir etc. These plants have antibacterial activity and helps to maintain बोधक कफ. Chewing the clean stem of plants is advised for maximum benefits. If not possible, one can use fine powder of these herbs for Dantadhavan (दन्तधावन) in morning and after food.
